On September 19-20, a conference on the future of the IT industry, SkillStaff Conf 2024, was held in Moscow. The speakers identified trends for the next 5 years, and also discussed the transformation of hiring and the industry as a whole.
SkillStaff Conf 2024 gathered over 150 participants, including representatives of business and IT companies: CEOs, SRT and CIO, commercial and ECOM directors, HR and others. More than 40 leaders of leading companies, representatives of industry communities and associations presented their speeches: RAEK, SkillStaff, MTC, VK, Alfa-Bank, HSE, Adamas Group, Lamoda, and others.
Among the key trends in the IT field that were voiced during the business program:
● The outstaffing market is growing and will reach 265 billion by the end of this year, which confirms the growing interest in types of flexible employment of personnel;
● More than 200 thousand IT outstaffers are involved in the industry every year;
● A significant increase in the number of self-employed and sole proprietors of IT specialists is expected.
The conference started with a plenary discussion on IT in the framework of global transformation. The discussion considered the impact of changes on Russian industries in the next five years, the impact of digitalization on the IT industry, approaches to IT strategies for business and overcoming personnel shortages.
During the day, experts discussed the prospects for the development of IT personnel, including specialties in demand in the future, the synergy of business and education, ways to eliminate staff hunger, measures to improve qualifications and tools for nurturing young professionals, as well as the popularization of IT professions.
At the round table "Prospects for the development of IT personnel", the results of the first Russian IT outstaffing market research conducted by SkillStaff and BCGroup were presented. During the meeting, key conclusions were considered based on the collected data, which allowed for a better understanding of the current state and trends in the field of IT specialists' rental. According to the study, 61% of the surveyed customer companies already have experience renting IT specialists, and on average, they have been using this service for more than ten years.
"There is a noticeable increase in interest in flexible forms of employment in Russia, which enable specialists to effectively allocate personal and working time, and employers to attract qualified specialists for specific tasks. It is worth noting that the IT outstaffing market, which is an important element of flexible employment, is showing steady growth. Our research has shown that in the next three years, the projected volume of the IT outstaffing market will increase by an average of 18% annually," said Nikita Shabashkevich, CEO and founder of SkillStaff.
In addition, at an open meeting of the RAEC IT-Austaffing cluster, the speakers examined how hiring specialists helps to cope with staff shortages, the process of implementing a managerial approach, its features and prospects.
The business program of the second day of SkillStaff Conf 2024 was divided into two blocks: IT personnel and effective management of IT employees. The experts discussed working with employees of different generations, changing corporate culture, new IT specialties and the transformation of current ones, as well as the impact of AI and the future of IT departments. According to Evgeny Kuznetsov, CEO of the Digital Evolution Ventures fund management company, with the introduction and development of AI, unemployment is not growing and is even decreasing, as the total number of jobs is growing. However, people move from one position to another in order to maintain maximum efficiency.
Special attention was paid to various work formats and employee management models, including platform employment and its benefits. The speakers note that the future of the industry lies in the transition to flexible employment. New generations are increasingly striving for such a format of employment and prefer to work in several jobs at the same time. According to Sergey Kozyr, a member of the Board of Directors of Adamas Group, founder and CEO of Digital Advisors, this is how people strive to find interesting tasks to implement, increase income levels, and diversify financial flows."In Russia, there is an increase in the number of IT professionals working as self-employed and individual entrepreneurs. This dynamic is related to the desire of professionals to gain greater independence in their activities. They prefer to choose which projects to work on themselves, which allows them to avoid attachment to a specific employer and maintain a flexible work schedule. Given this trend, SkillStaff plans to open access to the platform to such specialists by the end of this year," commented Polina Byalyatskaya, Executive Director of SkillStaff.
