In September 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia on the basis of St. Petersburg State University will launch a joint master's degree educational program "Economics and International economic Relations of Asian and African countries (with the study of Asian and African languages)" in the direction 58.04.01 "Oriental Studies and African Studies".

The Master's degree program "Economics and International Economic Relations of Asian and African countries (with the study of Asian and African languages)" involves the formation of students' holistic understanding of the economic characteristics of Asian and African countries and current economic and socio-political processes on these continents. Special attention is paid to the study and discussion of the processes of globalization of the world economy, the mechanisms of formation of national and regional economic systems, the problem of the influence of external and internal factors on public policy in trade, financial, tariff, social, industrial, agrarian, environmental fields in the states of Asia and Africa. In addition, undergraduates get acquainted with the specifics of the functioning of economic diplomacy, international business, international economic organizations and mechanisms of their interaction in the Afro-Asian region. Students master a block of basic disciplines in the field of economic theory, attend special courses on the economics of individual countries and regions and throughout their studies conduct an independent master's study on the problems of economics or international economic relations in Asia and Africa based on primary sources in the Oriental language in accordance with the country specialization of the undergraduate.

Students of the program can study more than 45 languages (Amharic, Arabic, Vietnamese, Chinese, Mongolian, Hausa and languages of Central Asian countries).  University students will be able to complete internships and internships with the possibility of further employment in the central office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Russia and trade missions of the Russian Federation in foreign countries.
