Within the framework of the federal project "Clean Country" of the national project "Ecology", work is underway to eliminate two unauthorized waste dumps in the cities of Belgorod and Grayvoron of the Belgorod region.
More than 840 million rubles have been allocated from the federal budget for the implementation of environmental projects. Contracts for the remediation of facilities were concluded at the end of 2022. Currently, the main technical stage of landfill liquidation is underway at two sites. The next biological stage, which includes a complex of agrotechnical and phytomeliorative measures aimed at restoring disturbed lands, is scheduled to begin in October 2023 in Grayvoron, in Belgorod - in April 2024.
The city dump in Belgorod has existed since 1977. Household garbage and construction waste were stored spontaneously, without compaction and insulation, as a result of which an increased content of organic substances and methane was recorded at the facility. All necessary measures will be completed here by the end of 2024. As a result, it is planned to eliminate about 1.2 million cubic meters of waste, restore 20.4 hectares of land exposed to the negative effects of accumulated environmental damage, and improve the quality of life for 390 thousand people.
The elimination of the landfill in Grayvoron is also important for the residents of the region. According to the results of the environmental project, about 63 thousand cubic meters of waste will be eliminated, more than three hectares of disturbed land will be restored, and the quality of life for 6.5 thousand people will be improved. The work is planned to be completed by the end of 2023.
