The 1509th issue of the bulletin "Branches of the Russian economy: production, finance, securities. Electric Power Industry" of the AK&M News Agency.

The volume of electric generation in Russia in 2022 increased by 0.6% compared to 2021 to 1167.0 billion. kWh. Consumption in the country increased by 1.5%, mainly in the areas of oil transportation and production, transportation by rail, as well as in the aluminum industry. In the Unified Energy System of Russia, when brought to the temperature conditions of 2021, the increase in consumption was 1.8%. The share of electricity produced by thermal power plants in total electricity generation increased from 61.6% in 2021 to 63.1% in 2022, hydroelectric power plants — decreased from 18.7% to 17.1%, respectively, nuclear power plants — remained at the level of 2021 — 19.2%.

The Russian government has approved the postponement of a number of projects of the thermal power plant modernization program for Inter RAO, TGC-2 and TGC-14 companies. The postponement of the commissioning of upgraded facilities averaged about two years. The tool for changing the dates of power supply is temporary and has been developed as a support measure for energy companies designed to preserve investment potential and ensure the modernization of generation facilities.

The export of Russian electricity by the end of 2022 increased by 15% to the value of 2020. Such figures were called by the Minister of Energy Nikolay Shulginov. In his opinion, it is incorrect to compare with 2021 due to the loss of a large sales market in 2022. Thus, the export figure in 2022 may be about 13.9 billion. kWh, which is 36.1% lower than the export level of 2021. At the same time, it is expected that by the end of 2022, a historical maximum will be set in terms of electricity supplies to China and Mongolia, an increase is estimated at 15-20% to the level of 2021.

By the end of 2022, the total capacity of renewable energy generation facilities in Russia amounted to 5.78 GW. Such data is provided by the Association for the Development of Renewable Energy. The increase in installed renewable energy capacity for the fourth quarter of last year amounted to 4.9%. In the structure of installed renewable energy capacity in Russia, the WPP is the leader — 2.3 GW, followed by SES — 2.1 GW, the share of small HPPs (up to 50 MW) accounts for 1.2 GW.

In 2022, Russian nuclear power plants produced over 223.371 billion tons. kWh, which is 0.4% higher than the level of 2021. The main factor in the growth of nuclear power generation was the high-quality repair campaign, during which it was possible to optimize its life by 146 days, including through the use of fundamentally new digital tools. However, production is expected to decrease in the next three years, since Rosenergoatom needs to solve modernization tasks, and in some cases this will require long downtime of equipment.
