The volume of communication services provided to enterprises of all types of activities in May 2021 increased by 10.7% compared to May 2020, and compared to April 2021-decreased by 1.2%, amounting to 180.5 billion rubles. In January-May 2021, the volume of communication services amounted to 934.6 billion rubles, which is 9.5% higher than the result of January-May 2020. The volume of paid communication services to the population in May 2021 amounted to 115.5 billion rubles, an increase of 2.3% compared to May 2020 and a decrease of 2% compared to the previous month.

Fixed Internet traffic in Russia in the first quarter of 2021 increased by almost 43% to 18.4 billion rubles. Gb compared to the same period last year, demonstrating record growth rates. According to experts, such an increase in fixed traffic is directly related to the COVID-19 epidemic and the transition to remote work. This dynamic may continue in the near future due to an increase in the penetration of digital services and the popularity of video content, analysts believe. At the same time, revenues from communication services in the country for the first quarter increased by 2% compared to a year earlier and amounted to 412.1 billion rubles, and total revenues from mobile communications - by 16.1% to 109.5 billion rubles.

Operators attribute the revenue growth to an increase in sales of subscriber equipment and fixed-line services, as well as to an increase in traffic consumption and voice services. At the same time, analysts note that operators have stopped raising archive tariffs and aggressively transferring their users to new, higher ones, with more filling of packages in minutes and gigabytes. According to a survey of subscribers conducted by Telecom Daily, prices for cellular communications in Russia have practically stopped growing over the past six months.

On July 1, 2021, a draft law was finally adopted, obliging foreign IT companies with a daily audience of 500 thousand people in the Russian Federation to open their branches in the country. Within the framework of the draft law, IT companies are required to create a branch, representative office or authorized legal entity in Russia, register a personal account on the website Roskomnadzor, as well as post an electronic form on its website for feedback from Russian citizens and organizations. If companies do not comply with these requirements, they may, in particular, be prohibited from distributing advertising, as well as collecting personal data. As a last resort, the possibility of partial or complete blocking of the resource is provided.
