Currently, additional measures are required to ensure the stabilization of food prices in the long term. The Ministry of Agriculture has prepared proposals on this issue. This was stated by Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin at a meeting of the Government of the Russian Federation, according to a transcript posted on the website of the Cabinet of Ministers.

In turn, Agriculture Minister Dmitry Patrushev explained that an uncharacteristic price increase for this period of the year is observed for two groups of goods. These are fruit and vegetable products and livestock products.

In 2021, according to him, vegetable growers were most affected by adverse weather, which affects the volume of domestic product supply and, accordingly, prices. Also, the increase in prices for vegetables and potatoes is affected by an increase in the cost of production associated with an increase in prices for fertilizers, fuels and lubricants, plant protection products.

D.Patrushev stressed that there are about 5 thousand organized producers of vegetables and potatoes in the Russian Federation, while personal subsidiary farms of the population are traditionally engaged in the cultivation of these products. They provide the production of more than 50% of vegetables and 65% of potatoes, but now there is a gradual decline in production volumes in this segment. In this regard, it is necessary to stimulate the production of vegetables in the organized sector.
