United Russia deputies have submitted amendments to the State Duma on the abolition of mandatory technical inspection. If the law is adopted, car owners will have the right to apply for a technical inspection at their own request. This was reported by the press service of the party.

At the same time, the procedure should become voluntary only for individuals – it will still be mandatory for commercial vehicles.

The explanatory note to the document states that the probability of participation in an accident of cars and motorcycles with technical malfunctions, but at the same time having valid CTP policies, is very low. In addition, the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic (Russia is a party to it) provides for mandatory technical inspection only for buses and trucks with a maximum weight of more than 3.5 tons, as well as trailers for them.
