US Federal Court approved acquisition of Time Warner by US AT&T for $85bn, Kommersant informed.
The merger was affirmed without any requirements as far as it doesn't violate the antimonopoly legislation. Still the US Ministry of Justice disputed this decision.
The disagreement of the latter and its intention to appeal against the Court's verdict was announced in Nov. 2017. AT&T and Time Warner came to a consent on the merger in 2016. The transaction was approved by EC, Mexico and Chili.
Feb. 15, 2017 the holders of Time Warner approved the merger by the majority (78%).
Thus, the transaction appraised to worth $85.4bn is assumed to result in the merger of the assets of Time Warner (HBO, CNN and Warner Bros. studio) and AT&T (wire/wireless networks and DirecTV).
During the presidential campaign D.Trump criticized the merger due to the concentration of large market resources in a single company. AT&T is the largest pay-TV provider in USA.
